The memorial is located off the D517 a few hundred meters inland from the beach.

ON D-DAY, 6 JUNE 1944, THE FIFTH U.S. ARMY RANGER BATTALION
LANDED ON OMAHA BEACH NEAR VIERVILLE SUR-MER UNDER INTENSE
ENEMY FIRE RESPONDING TO THE BRIGADIER GENERAL COTA'S HISTORIC
ORDER, "LEAD THE WAY RANGERS" THE FIFTH RANGER BATTALION
WITH A-B- AND C COMPANIES OF THE RANGER BATTALION,
ADVANCED AGAINST STRONGLY DEFENDED ENEMY FORTIFICATIONS
MANNED BY GENERAL ROMMEL'S TOUGHEST TROOPS. THE RANGER
BREAKTHROUGH OPENED THE BEACH ALLOWING TROOPS OF THE 29TH
INFANTRY DIVISION TO POUR THROUGH AND THUS PAVED THE WAY
FOR THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE
