A monument to the men of the 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles who liberated the hamlet of Longueval (3km to the east of Ranville) on the 7th June 1944.
The 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles travelled to Normandy in Horsa gliders which landed at 2100 hours on the 6th June 1944 with only one casualty which was caused by mortar fire after landing. The Battalion concentrated South of Ranville at 2230 hours and the attack to seize Longueval was to start at 0900 hours on the 7th June.
