The full story of the 2nd Battalion's actions in Normandy can be explored through their June 1944 war diary. The diary records the battalion embarking at Lymington on the 3rd of June, sailing for France on the 5th, and landing one mile east of Arromanches at midday on D-Day. From there it details their advance inland, including the fierce battle for the chateau at Sully, bridge operations around Ellon and Bucéels in support of 7th Armoured Division, and weeks of patrolling, shelling and close-quarter fighting near Tilly-sur-Seulles.
