This memorial at Bavent is dedicated to Brigadier S. James L. Hill (1911–2006),commander of the 3rd British Parachute Brigade from 1943 to 1945. It features two plaques: one honouring Brigadier Hill himself, a double DSO and MC recipient and Officer of the Légion d’Honneur, and another commemorating the 3rd Parachute Brigade and its units, the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, 8th Parachute Battalion, 9th Parachute Battalion, 3rd Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers, and 224th Parachute Field Ambulance who fought in Normandy in 1944.
