This memorial marks the spot where Serjeant Christopher Cyril “Pete” Barwick and his comrades of 22 Platoon, D Company, 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, were killed on 7 June 1944.

They fell during a fierce battle against elements of the German 21st Panzer Division, while serving as part of the 6th Airlanding Brigade of the British 6th Airborne Division.
