A memorial to 7th Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment who held Pegasus Bridge and Bénouville for almost 24 hours on the 6th June 1944, the memorial is located near the town hall.
This plaque commemorates the arduous battle fought by the
7th Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment commanded by
Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Pine-Coffin DSO MC on the 6th June 1944.
The battalion held Pegasus Bridge and the village of Benouville for
almost twenty-four hours under continuous fighting and suffered
heavy casualties, of over 60 killed and wounded.
This stele inaugurated on June 6, 2018 is offered by the muncicpality
of Benouville.
