This memorial honours Captain Michel Gauvin of Le Régiment de la Chaudière, who landed on D-Day with the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. His unit advanced inland from Bernières-sur-Mer through Bény-sur-Mer and Basly toward Colomby-Anguerny, helping to secure the area on 6 June 1944. The stele stands in recognition of his role and the regiment’s part in the liberation of the commune.
