Memorial 51st Highland Division

The memorial was erected in memory of the 51st Scottish Division who fought in the Battle for Bréville between the 8th and 13th of June.

ON 10TH JUNE 1944 THE HIGHLAND DIVISION
MADE ITS FIRST ATTACK FROM THIS POSITION
IN THE BOIS DE MONTS TOWARDS BREVILLE.
IN THIS AND THE ACTION AT THE CHATEAU ST COME
110 MEN WERE KILLED IN TWO DAYS.
VAASYLY OUTNUMBERED AND AGAINST
FEROCIOUS COUNTER ATTACKS
THE HIGHLANDERS
HELPED TO SECURE THE ORNE BRIDGEHEAD
ONLY BY STEADFAST DEDICATION
COURAGE AND SACRIFICE

En Mémoire des Soldats
de la
st (Highland) Division.
Le Juin la Highland Division lance sa
prémiére attaque du Bois des Monts vers Bréville.
Durant cette attaque et celle du Cháteau St Cóme,
qu'ils défendaient avec le 9th Parachute Battalion,
110 hommes tombérent en deux jours.
Surpassés en nombre et faisant face á des contre-
attaques féroces, les Highlanders aidérent á
maintenir la téte de pont de l'Orne grace á leur
inébranlable dévouement et sacrafice courageux.
