Mémorial de Caen
Le Mémorial de Caen
The Mémorial de Caen is a museum and war memorial commemorating the Second World War and the Battle for Caen.
The museum places the Second World War in context by covering the events from 1918 leading up to the Start of World War Two. The exhibitions cover the D-Day Landings, the Battle of Normandy, what life was like living under the German occupation, how the war started and escalated into a global conflict, the genocide and violence committed during the war and the cost of ending the war.
The Mémorial de Caen is the largest museum in Normandy so you should allow at least half a day to explore it! There is a cafe and restaurant on site as well as a covered picnic area.
