The Musée Mémorial d'Omaha Beach is located in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, just a short walk from the beach where the American 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions came ashore on June 6, 1944. Positioned near one of the key beach exits used by U.S. forces during the assault, the museum offers a compact but informative look at one of the most heavily defended sectors of the Normandy coastline.
Inside, the museum presents a chronological view of the landings with a strong focus on personal stories and original artifacts. The collection includes uniforms, weapons, medical equipment, radios, and documents from both American and German forces. Many of the items have direct ties to individuals who fought at Omaha, and there are numerous photos and testimonies that help bring these stories to life.
One of the museum's most striking features is its full-scale casemate exhibit, complete with an anti-tank gun and anti-aircraft weaponry, giving visitors a sense of the German defenses encountered by Allied troops as they came ashore. The museum’s layout is easy to follow and allows for a thoughtful, self-paced visit.
Because of its location so close to the sand, it’s easy to combine a museum visit with time spent walking the beach and exploring nearby memorials and bunkers. I’d recommend allowing at least an hour here, especially if you’re interested in seeing the displays in detail or spending time at the original landing site just outside
