This plaque marks the location where Rifleman Bill Ross and his comrades of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada spent their first night on Norman soil after the liberation of Anguerny on 6 June 1944.
It was unveiled in June 2009 by the Westlake Brothers Souvenir Association and the children of the CM2 class of Anisy, in gratitude and remembrance of the soldiers who fought for the village’s freedom.
The plaque is mounted on the base of a calvary cross (calvaire) on the eastern edge of Anguerny, along the D141 road, just as you leave the town.
It is here that Rifleman Bill Ross and his courageous comrades of the
Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada spent their first night on Norman soil,
liberated on June 6th, 1944.
