Square Brigadier James HILL

This memorial at Bavent honours Brigadier James Hill, commander of the 3rd Parachute Brigade of the British 6th Airborne Division. Under his leadership, the brigade parachuted into Normandy in the early hours of D-Day, 6 June 1944, and fought to secure the eastern flank of the Allied landings.

The square dedicated in his name stands alongside the memorials to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and the 3rd Parachute Battalion, reflecting the close cooperation of these units during the battle for Normandy.
