Tucker Bailey Bridge, Saint-Hilaire-Petitville, Carentan

A Bailey Bridge was built over the River Taute was built by the 300th Combat Engineer Battalion in June 1944 to replace the original bridge which was destroyed by the retreating Germans.

The bridge was named after Major John Tucker who was killed by shell fire while supervising the construction of the bailey bridge.

Today there is a memorial at the site but the original bailey bridge is no longer visible.
