La Fiére Memorial Park is dedicated to the American Airborne Troops who lost there lives in the area and is located over looking the Merderet River and the causeway. It was essential that the causeway was captured to prevent German reinforcements coming from the south and to allow troops landing at Utah Beach to progress further inland.
La Fiére Memorial Park contains Iron Mike Airborne Memorial a replica of the "Iron Mike" statue located in Fort Bragg. The original was sculpted by Leah Hiebert in 1960-1961 modelled on Sgt. Major Runyon.
The other side of the causeway is the hamlet of Cauquigny where much of the fighting took place, the Cauquigny chapel was badly damaged and later repaired but bullet holes and battle damaged can still be seen.
