War Diary: 2 Wing Glider Pilot Regiment

    Month and year: May 1944

During the No. 2 Wing Glider Pilots Regiment May 1944 war diary, the unit continued training at RAF stations across England with Blakehill Farm serving as a key location for briefings. On 6 May, the A.O.C-in-C of the A.E.A.F. addressed the RAF and Glider Pilots at Blakehill Farm, with Lieutenant General F.A.M. Browning also addressing the pilots. During 20-22 May, the unit participated in Exercise CONSTERNATION, an airborne exercise where 75 unloaded HORSAS gliders from Broadwell, Down Ampney, and Blakehill Farm landed at Netheravon. Operations and Intelligence Officers were briefed on Exercise NEPTUNE, the airborne side of the invasion of Europe, which was further rehearsed during Exercise CANDID on 26-28 May. The month concluded with an inspection by the Colonel Commandant of the Glider Pilot Regiment, Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke C.I.G.S., who reviewed the Regiment at Brize Norton on 31 May
