On the 14th June 1944, B Squadron of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards were tasked with supporting 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry with their objective of capturing Hottot and the village of Verrieres (about 1km North of Lingèvres).
The attack on Verriers was preceded by the bombing and strafing of the village by the air force followed by a creeping barrage by Divisional Artillery as the infantry from 6 DLI advanced towards Verriers who met heavy resistance and called for support from the tanks. During the action B Squadron lost 5 tanks.
