HQ 69 INF BDE - D DAY

0725 H hr. Sky cloudy; choppy sea.
Coast could easily be recognised from aerial photographs until the smoke and the dust of the bombardment obscured it.

0845 Tac HQ landed in four feet of water. Beach was soft and peaty. Bde HQ from now onwards had considerable comn difficulties because the BMs M14, carrier with wireless and comdrs jeep stuck.

1000 5 E YORKS report enemy still fighting in LA RIVIERE chiefly from pillboxes and houses. Sniping was severe. The preliminary bombardment had not been fully effective.

Bde solved its comn problem by taking two handcart sets from MBSS and giving comdr IO's jeep.

Bde estab that night 889796.
