(See 90 Fd Regt 6 Jun 1 HAMPS)

1 DORSET Intention:- 1 DORSET will capture in succession

(a) strong pt and farm at LES ROQUETTES
(b) Pt 54
(c) Inf locality North of Pt 54
(d) Gun posn West of Pt 54

0725 Two aslt coys land. The landing was made 600 yards to the East of the correct beach and this caused some confusion. 1 coy of 1 HAMPS landed at A Coys objective 886866 and mopped it up without difficulty. A Coy landed 600 yards further East and pushed ashore without difficulty. B Coy landing further still to the East met MG, mortar and shell fire; they worked to their right towards their 0915 objective LES ROQUETTES 887867, only to find on their arrival that a proportion of C Coy 1 DORSETS had been landed behind the coy of 1 HAMPS and had pushed forward and captured the posn. C Coy landed further East and suffered cas from mines and mortar fire.

Operations then went according to plan. The bn took all its objectives LES ROQUETTES, BUHOT (1330) Pt 54 (1400) PUITS D'HERODE (1700) and the gun posn at 848852 (1830).

Strong opposition was met from enemy in the South of ASNELLES, against whom C Coy put in an attack in conjunction with a coy of 1 HAMPS. Pt 54 was likewise more strongly defended than was expected.

Apart from the coy attack against ASNELLES, the bn performed its tasks by bypassing to the South of ASNELLES and LE HAMEL.

Posns at last light:

Bn HQ - 851841
A Coy - 848843
B Coy - RYES 8483
C Coy - 852843
D Coy - 853842

Bn patrolled that night along the line of LA GRONDE RIVIERE.

Notes; Prisoners from 352 Inf Div were reported C sqn SYR helped in attack on Pt 54 at 1500 hrs, also 90 Fd Regt. Diary states wind was force 4-5 compared to force 6-7 in SICILY.
